PURPOSE: To obtain the subject highly safe promoter containing, as active ingredient, an intermediate during the process of lignin biosynthesis, capable of promoting the growth of saintpaulia leaves, capable of helping saintpaulia blossoming, and also effective for preventing the plant's root rot or leaves decay due to pathogenic fungi. ;CONSTITUTION: This saintpaulia blossoming promoter contains, as active ingredient, an metabolic intermediate during the process of lignin biosynthesis such as a cinnamic acid derivative, esp. cinnamic acid or caffeic acid. This promoter, which has blossoming promotive action, also has the suppressive effect on saintpaulia pathogenic fungi breeding. The effective amount of this promoter to be used is 0.00001-0.02 pts.wt. based on a total of 100 pts.wt. of a medium (including soil). This promoter has saintpaulia's flower and bud growth promoting effect, blossoming promotive effect at the first blossoming and after blossoming, and antimicrobial activity on saintpaulia pathogenic fungi. Use of such environmentally benign substance as the active ingredient enables shortening saintpaulia raising period safely and assuredly, thus exerting great economical effect.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
