PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the color filter substrate which enables improvement in productivity of the opposite substrate without adversely affecting its functions and the manufacture of an inexpensive liquid crystal display device by successively forming a reflection layer, a light-diffusive color filter layer and a transparent electrode layer on a substrate. ;SOLUTION: This display device consists of a color filter substrate 39, a liquid crystal 35, an opposite substrate 38 to the color filter substrate 39, etc., wherein the opposite substrate 38 consists of a transparent substrate 31 and a driving element required for pixel display, transparent pixel electrodes 34, etc., each of which is formed on the substrate 31. This color filter substrate 39 consists of a substrate 37, a reflection layer 36, a light-diffusive color filter layer 32, a transparent electrode layer 33, etc. In the display device, light I0 from the outside is passed through the light-diffusive color filter layer 32 to convert the light into diffused colored light and the diffused colored light is reflected by a reflection layer 36 and then the reflected colored light is passed again through the light-diffusive color filter layer 32 and the diffused and reflected light R1 is allowed to exit to the outside. As the substrate 32 used, such a substrate having sufficient strength, flatness, heat resistance, chemical resistance, etc., is preferred. Also, as the reflection layer 36, a metallic thin film made of aluminum or silver, that is provided concurrently with high reflectivity and high electric conductivity, is preferably used.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
