PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and surely detect page missing or increment in pages by accurately measuring the thickness of a book, and to efficiently eject the book having page missing or increment in pages. ;SOLUTION: In a bookbinding system wherein bookbinding is performed while each unbound book A stacked with sections is being held by the fixed fastening plate 12 and the movable fastening plate 13 of each clamp 7 one by one so as to be carried on, the quantity of displacement of each movable fastening plate 13 is measured by a laser displacement sensor 14 in a non-contact manner, by comparing the measured quantity of displacement with a set value by a detecting circuit in the inside of a controller 15, the pages missing or increment in pages of each unbound book is thereby detected every clamp. When page missing or increment in pages is detected, discharge signal for discharging book having page missing or increment in pages, is outputted when the applicable clamp is carried in to a specified position.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
