AREA DIVISION OF IMAGE BASED ON LINE SEGMENT ON COLOR SPACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality or permit easy utilization for image compressing or image editing by accelerating the area division of an image to be used for the preceding stage of image comprehension or the like. ;SOLUTION: By directly dividing an image plane, the division of a color space on the preceding stage is regarded important. Not only by performing Voronoi division to the point of the color space as a conventional method but also by performing the Voronoi division to a line segment, the frequency of merging small areas on the following stage is reduced. Further, the division of the color space with the quantity of information per border line as a reference is performed as well. Concerning the merge of small areas on the following stage, the entire areas are gathered into one shortest tree and by selecting the optimum branch, the range to be investigated can be remarkably reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
