PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the accuracy or performance quality of a wavelet data compression technique and to provide a technique provided with the speed, efficiency and on-line realizability of a known interpolation compression technique by deciding one of the coefficients of one high level layer after a data receiver receives a first data point and before the data receiver receives a second data point. ;SOLUTION: The receiver 62 of a compression system 60 receives the stream of data points to be compressed and supplies the respective data points to a compression tree calculation device 64. The compression tree calculation device 64 realizable in software hardware, firmware or the like inside a processor calculates or decides the coefficients such as an approximation coefficient and a detailed coefficient from data received by the receiver 62.
