PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject polypeptide consisting of SC6 polypeptide having high identity to a specific amino acid sequence over the whole length, usable for treatment, diagnosis or the like of neuropathic pain, spasticity, myoclonus, epilepsy, apoplexy or the like. SOLUTION: This isolated new SC6 polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 97% identity to an amino acid sequence of the formula over the whole length, and is useful for treatment, diagnosis assay or the like of a functional damage or disease including neuropathic pain, another pain, spasticity, myoclonus, epilepsy, apoplexy, cervical injury, spondylopathy, incontinentia, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease and the like. The peptide is obtained by incorporating the SC6 polynucleotide obtained from a cDNA library derived from human vertebra by an expressed sequence tag analysis by using a standard cloning and screening technique into an expressing system, and expressing the SC6 polynucleotide in a compatible host cell.
