PURPOSE: To effectively remove SO2 and SO3 by using magnesium oxide as an absorbent. ;CONSTITUTION: Magnesium oxide powder is sprayed from a magnesium oxide powder storage hopper 1 into a flue 5 in which SOx contg. gas flows. The magnesium oxide powder is guided to an absorber 9 while absorbing SO2 in flue gas in the flue 5. In the absorber 9, the magnesium oxide comes into contact with a circulating liquid from a spray line 7 and is collected by it. The circulating liquid absorbs SO2 in the flue gas to remove it while it falls in the absorber 9. The circulating liquid is circulated from the bottom part of the absorber 9 by a circulating pump 10. The sulfite ion concentration of the circulating liquid is detected by a detector 18. When the detected sulfite ion concentration is lowered, oxidation by an oxidizing blower 13 is restrained to improve the activity of the magnesium oxide by the presence of the sulfite ions in the liquid. The feed rate of the magnesium oxide is controlled by a control unit 14 based on signals given by a detector 16 for SOx concentration in gas, a gas flow rate detector 17 and a pH meter 15.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
