PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly accurate and compact electrode by forming a thin chip electrode of a composite material in which graphite crystals are orientated in one direction in a glassy carbon matrix and setting a hydrophilic polymer layer, a reaction layer including an enzyme on the electrode. ;SOLUTION: A chlorinated vinyl chloride resin, a furan resin, a natural scale-like graphite powder, a diallyl phthalate monomer are mixed and kneaded. The kneaded substance is extruded by an extruder, processed while being stretched for about 10 hours in an air oven at approximately 180°C to be a carbon precursor material and gradually heated to approximately 1000°C in a nitrogen gas atmosphere. Moreover, the material is heated to approximately 1400°C in an argon atmosphere to be enhanced in purity, whereby a bar-like composite material having the graphite orientated in one direction is obtained. The material is machined to a thin electrode 10 by diamond wheel machining, polished by an abrasive paper and united on an insulating resin substrate 14 by an insulating adhesive. A lead is formed and an insulating coat layer 12 is formed, thereby constituting an electrode part. Thereafter a hydrophilic polymer layer is formed, and a reaction layer of a combination of an enzyme and an electron transmitter is formed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
