A measurement of signal intensity of transfer assisted by mobile station (MAHO), is ordered by the cell phone system for not only the traffic channel (108) and the reference channels (control) of neighboring cells (104) currently used, but also for the reference (control) channel of the active cell (106). These MAHO measurements are reported (110) to the system in which a compensation factor (112) is determined, which is responsible for the use of different modulation and / or hyperband schemes for the system's traffic and control channels. The compensation factor is calculated by subtracting the MAHO measurement, made in the living cell reference channel.
