"PROCESSES TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF NECROTIC ENTEROCOLITIS IN A CHILD AND FOR THE PRODUCTION OF AN ENTERAL FORMULA, AND, PERFECTED ENTERAL FORMULAS CONTAINING ARAQUIDANIC ACID AND SUITABLE FOOD DOCUMENTS." Enteral formulas, which contain long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), for example arachidonic acid (AA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) essentially free from cholesterol, and a process for producing such enteral compositions are described. More particularly, the invention relates to processes for reducing the incidence of necrotic enterocolitis by administering compositions which provide n-6 and n-3 long-chain PUFAs; phospholipids and / or choline. Egg yolk compositions and lipids are presently preferred, as they contain n-6 and n-3 long-chain PUFAs and are predominantly in a phosphididylcholine form.
