B '' PROCESS FOR THE RECOVERY OF POLYESTER FROM CONTAMINATED POLYESTER WASTE AND PROCESS FOR THE RECOVERY OF DIMETHYLTHEFTALATE AND GLYCOL ALKYLENE FROM POLYESTER RESIDUE OF THIS CONTINUED PROCESS 'D recovery of a polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate, from contaminated polyester residue containing non-polyester components, such as polyester mixed with cotton or other fibers in the form of yarn or fabric, polyester magnetic tapes, coated polyester films and engineering resins, by dissolving the polyester in dimethyltereftalate, methyl-p-toluate or fused dimethylisophthalate as a solvent, separating the polyester solution from the non-polyester components. The polyester can subsequently be recovered through crystallization or the polymer solution can be used in the form of feed material for methanolysis, to form dimethyltereftalate (DMT) and alkylene glycol. DMT can be subsequently hydrolyzed to recover terephthalic acid (TPA).
