"WAVE LENGTH CONVERTER, PROCESS FOR TRANSFERING INFORMATION FROM A FIRST OPTICAL BEAM TO A SECOND OPTICAL BEAM, AND, OPTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM" an optical wavelength converter is provided that allows quick and efficient displacement of modulated information in a one wavelength light signal to a second wavelength light signal without the negative effects of noise and other disturbances that have proven to be problems in the prior art. The device divides a CW probe signal of a first wavelength into two components, which propagate in opposite directions through a Kerr leg. Also propagating in Kerr's leg is a signal of excitation modulated in a second wavelength. These signals interact on Kerr's leg, and are recombined in an output coupler in order to create interference between the two probe components. An intensity-modulated probe signal is output.
