Preparation of macro elements (e.g. calcium and magnesium (Ca and Mg)) (I) containing oligo-saccharide powders especially prebiotic powders products comprises adding a food quality acid corresponding stiochiometrically to the totality of Ca and Mg and dissolving in an aqueous solution of an appropriate oligosaccharide or preferably in a prebiotic solution. Sufficient edible inorganic calcium compound, preferably CaCO3 is added to reach at least 5 wt.% of the oligo-saccharide present. A magnesium compound (preferably magnesium hydroxycarbonate) is added under constant agitation, to the acid containing the solution. The resulting solution is spray dried while constant agitation is maintained.
