PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING TYPE II COLLAGEN FOR TREATING RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

(A) A method for treating rheumatoid arthritis in humans is claimed which comprises orally administering 5 to 25 mcg/day of type II collagen to a human for a period of time sufficient to decrease at least one clinical symptom selected from joint tenderness, joint swelling, morning stiffness, grip strength, and 50-foot walk time.Also claimed are: (B) a method of treating at least one arthritis symptom in a human comprising orally administering 5 to 25 mcg/day of type II collagen; (C) a method of suppressing an autoimmune response in at least one afflicted joint in a human comprising orally administering 5 to 25 mcg/day of type II collagen; (D) a dosage form for use in treating rheumatoid arthritis in humans comprising a container holding 5 to 25 mcg of type II collagen dissolved in an acid.
