Method of inhibiting cytokine-induced expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), comprises administration of a 2,6-dialkyl-4-silylphenol derivative of formula (I). R1-R4 = 1-4C alkyl; Z = S, O, CH2; A = 1-4C alkylene; R5 = 1-4C alkyl or (CH2)nAr; n = 0-3; and Ar = phenyl or naphthyl (both optionally substituted by 1-3 OH, OMe, OEt, Cl, F or 1-4C alkyl). Also claimed is a method of treating chronic inflammatory disease by administration of (I).
