The bulbs (8) are poured into a tank (1), where they float to the surface (A). The bulbs are lifted out by grill plates (4) which are driven round the system by a chain wheel system. Each grill plate is carried to a tray input section (9). Each tray (10) is pressed onto the plate, so that the ends of pins (13) are inserted in the bases of the bulbs. The trays are then inverted and the grill plates are removed.
