The instrument is housed in a tube (2) shaped like a pen. Inside the housing (2) are a battery (2) and a circuit (3) which generates a high voltage pulsed current. The high voltage is fed to external contacts (8, 9). One contact (8) is hinged, enabling the area of the sting or bite to be gripped. A knob (5) on the side of the housing controls the strength of the current. The current is discharged when the operating knob (6) is pressed.
