The bed (1) is supported on the castered frame (2) by a scissors mechanism which allows it to be raised or lowered. The auxiliary mechanism has two telescopic pillars (10) linked by a cross bar (11). On top of each pillar is a U-shaped beam (20) which supports belt rollers (21). Flexible belts (13) are passed under part (6) of the patient's body. The bed is then lowered and the part of the body is raised from the mattress.
