vehicle diagnostics interface apparatus translates the trouble codes produced by a "check engine light" into human readable form. The "check engine" or other fault indicator light 21 flashes a "trouble code" when there is a problem that requires attention. The light flashes are received by a sensor 24, which produces electrical signals in response to the light flashes. These signals are fed to a decoder unit 26 which converts the signals into a form that can be fed to a PC programmed with information regarding vehicle trouble codes. The PC can then display a message that informs the user of the nature of the vehicle fault.
