The short message routing system has an envelope routing field, and a field for the number of the first center, as well as a third field with the mobile telephone number sending the message, and the text message. A dialing plan (PN) has the numbers of the short message transmission centers (SMSC) and possible interconnections, and switching (MSC) to destination networks (M1a-M4a). A dialing plan (GPN) separate from the destination dialing defines the short message routing through the transmission routing centers.
