The post (1) is made by gluing together elongated pieces of wood with flat bonding surfaces, each of which is pre-fabricated from a number of short wooden pieces joined end to end, at least some of these defining a channel through which air can flow in the post length direction. The post has a top end fitting covering the channel and helping to form an outlet for air to leave the post, and a bottom end fitting (9) including a fixed base section (17) with at least one inlet (18) for air to enter the bottom end of the channel.
