Process for preparing cis(+-)-1-[4-[[2-(2-(2,4- dichlorophenyl)-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)-1,3- dioxalan-4-yl]methoxy]phenyl]-4-(1-methylethyl) piperazine. Characterised by the treatment of cis-(+-)-1-[4-[[2-(2,4- dichlorophenyl-2-(bromomethyl)-1,3-dioxalan-4-yl]- methoxy]phenyl]-4-(1-methylethyl)piperazine with 1-H- 1,2,4-triazole in an inert solvent in the presence of a base. Alternatively it may be performed in an organic solvent which is inert to the reaction medium such as N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone, dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, sulpholan or methyl isobutyl ketone, or in the presence of a base such as sodium hydride, or the alkoxide, carbonate or bicarbonate of alkali or alkaline earth metals.
