COATED FIBROUS MAT-FACED GYPSUM BOARD RESISTANT TO WATER AND HUMIDITY

Disclosed is a gypsum-based panel comprising a gypsum core facedon at least one surface thereof with a mat comprising mineralfibers. The surface of the mineral fiber mat is covered with asubstantially humidity and water-resistant resinous coating tothe extent that substantially none of the fibers protrude fromthe coating. The coating has a surface water absorption value,as measured by the Modified Cobb Test, of no greater than about2.4 grams. The coating of the invention is capable of bondingwith Portland cement-based mortar.
