This invention relates to the use of lowtemperature plasma technology for significantlyimproved corrosion protection of steel. The plasmaprocess involves pretreating of the steel surfaces byoxygen plasma and thin film deposition bypolymerization of certain precursors on the steel.The process utilizes DC power, substrates as thecathode, magentron anodes, and system pressures of0.01-0.5 torr. After the thin film plasma depositionit is also preferable to put a primer coating over thethin film.
