ANTISENSE OLIGONUCLEOTIDE INHIBITION OF PAPILLOMAVIRUS

Oligonucleotides and oligonucleotide analogs are provided which are capable ofantisense interaction with messengerRNA of papillomavirus. Such oligonucleotides or oligonucleotide analogs can beused for diagnostics and therapeutics as well asfor research purposes. In accordance with preferred embodiments of thisinvention, oligonucleotide or oligonucleotide analog isprovided which is hybridizable with a messenger RNA from a papillomavirus. Theoligonucleotide or oligonucleotide analog isable to inhibit the function of the RNA; and accordingly is useful for therapyfor infections by such papillomavirus. In accordancewith a preferred embodiment, portions of the papillomavirus are targeted forantisense attack. Thus oligonucleotides arepreferably provided which hybridize with the E2; E1, E7, or E6-7 messengerRNAs.
