Environmental release of carcinogenic polychlorinateddibenzo-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzo-furan compoundsthat typically result from combustion of materialscontaining chlorine or hydrochloric acid-generatingcomponents is minimized by preferential sorption of theprecursor reactants on sorbents added to exhaust gas athigh temperatures containing such precursors prior toconversion of the precursors to carcinogenic compoundsnormally occurring as the exhaust gas is cooled.
