AN MT RJ COMPATIBLE FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR HAVING A SUBSTANTIALLY CYLINDRICAL FERRULE

An MT RJ compatible fiber optic connector having a substantially cylindricalferrule is provided that can be mated with conventional MT RJ connectors andconventional SC DC connectors as well as other MT RJ compatible connectors.Additionally, the MT RJ compatible fiber optic connector can be selectivelyconfiguredas a male connector or a female connector. The MT RJ compatible fiber opticconnectorincludes a substantially rectangular housing and a substantially cylindricalferruleoperably connected to the housing such that a forward portion of the ferruleis exposedthrough a forward end of the housing. The MT RJ compatible fiber opticconnector canalso include at least one conversion component adapted to be selectivelymountedproximate the forward portion of the substantially cylindrical ferrule toconvert thefemale configuration of the MT RJ compatible fiber optic connector into a maleconfiguration without having to remove any components from the femaleconfigurationof the MT RJ compatible fiber optic connector.
