A method and apparatus for providing background surveillance and detection ofunsuspected aberrant clinical information. The capability of selecting toreceive test results for a patient from one or more tests of a plurality oftests is provided, as well as the ability to receive test results that wereoriginally not desired, but only on the condition that the undesired testresults meet a predetermined threshold value, thus indicating an aberrantcondition with the patient which must be addressed. As such, the amount ofextraneous information which must be considered by the physician is minimized,resulting in a savings of time and money which would have been spentunnecessarily. The method and apparatus applies to a single test or tocontinuous testing of a patient. The method and apparatus are further usefulas a quality control measurement tool.
