GEL REDUCTION IN HIGH CIS-1,4-POLYBUTADIENE PRODUCTION PROCESS

A process for the production of cis-1,4-polybutadiene having a low level ofgel content is described. The process comprises polymerizing 1,3-butadiene inthe presence of a catalyst and a polymerization diluent. The polymerizationdiluent comprises an organic solvent and water particles having a medianparticle size less than or equal to about 10 µm. By controlling the meanparticle size of the water present in the diluent, the level of gel content inthe polymer product may be reduced.
