METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR HANDOFF BETWEEN AN ASYNCHRONOUS CDMA BASE STATION AND A SYNCHRONOUS CDMA BASE STATION

A method and system that enables faster acquisition of the forward link signalof a target base station in a mixed network of synchonous and asynchronousbase stations is disclosed. The serving base station transmits in a neighborlist an estimated timing error (417) between the serving base station and atarget base station. By utilizing the timing information, a mobile stationestimates the relative time offset (408) between forward link signals receivedfrom the serving base station and signals received from the target basestation. Timing information acquired during handoff enables accurate updatingof the estimated timing error (417) subsquently transmitted in the neighborlists by the base stations.
