A stent (30) having an elongate tubular configuration is formed of a pluralityof elongate elements (84) interwoven or braided to form a tubularconfiguration. The elements (84) may be relatively strong, and rigid, butmovable relative to each other within the weave or braid in order to providethe stent with generally soft characteristics. The elements may be formed ofdifferent materials, such as an absorbent material permitting the stent to bedoped with materials, such as drugs, and chemicals. Even the absorbency can becontrolled, and varied to provide a predetermined time-release of theabsorbent.
