The invention relates to beach or protective clothing which partially or fully covers the human skin, possibly also the face and head, and thus protects the skin against the harmful effects of strong natural or artificial light, notably ultraviolet radiation found in the invisible range of such light. Said clothing covers the surface of the skin in only a net-like manner, does not prevent tanning and does not impair ventilation of the skin. The invention can be configured from any light-weight textile fabric where the mesh density (5) of the fabric net (1) is between 1.0 and 2.5 mm and the thickness of the thread (2) is between 0.25 and 0.35 mm so that for perpendicular light rays its geometric coverage, i.e. its ultraviolet filtration capacity, is at least 40 % in temperate zones and lower or higher, for example 50 %, in areas subjected to more or less sun exposure, respectively.
