DATABASE IN A DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING SYSTEM USING A TELEPHONY SOFTWARE INTERFACE

A system, method, and apparatus for accessing and maintaining a database using a telephony software interface, such as the Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI), is described. The line device is dedicated as a database line in the service provider at the server. Each of the address objects associated with the line device are treated as objects and contain various fields of information from records in the database. The client accesses the database maintained by the server using a protocol of the telephony software interface, such as the TAPI protocol.
