The invention relates to a device for double back stitch sewing or embroidery machines for changing the bobbin capsule that receives the bobbin and that is itself received by a gudgeon, which is located inside the lower capsule of the gripper. The inventive device comprises a receiving device, which has a support with several adjacent receiving areas for the bobbin capsules and a gripping device for transferring the bobbin capsules with full bobbins from the changeover position of the receiving device to the gripper and for transferring the bobbin capsules with empty bobbins from the gripper to the changeover position of the receiving device. The changeover position of the receiving device is positioned directly to the side of the gripper, on essentially the same axis, and the gripping device can be moved along a path between the gripper and the changeover position of the receiving device that is oriented essentially parallel to the gripper axis.
