The invention relates to a tissue culture system for functionally testing natural or artificial hollow organs. A hollow organ (51) is located in a first tube (3), with a respective end of the hollow organ (51) being connectable to a cannula (1, 2) that is branched off from one end of the tube (3) in a tight manner. Said first tube (3) is located within a second tube (4). Said first tube (3) has holes (5) that link the space (28) that is enclosed by the first tube (3) with the chamber (77) between the first and the second tube. A gas-permeable duct (7) runs alongside the outer periphery of the first tube (3). The end sections (7', 7'') of said duct emerge from the chamber (77) in a gas-tight manner. A serum can be filled into the blood vessel (51) by means of a cannula (1) and the suspended cells of the patient can be injected in a predetermined concentration. A culture medium is filled into the chamber (77) and via the holes (5) into the space (28). The injected, suspended cells are removed and a culture medium is introduced into the blood vessel (51) that remains during the growth of the cells that are sedimented on the wall of the vessel while a hydrostatic excess pressure is maintained.
