PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing liquid crystal compounds. ;CONSTITUTION: The compound of the formula (Ar is phenyl or nitrile; R is an Ar, a 1-10C straight chain alkyl, a 3-8C branched chain alkyl or a 2-7C alkoxyalkyl), e.g. 4-n-pentyl-4-phenyl-4-silacyclohexanecarbaldehyde. The compound of the formula is synthesized by the following processes: a ylide compound formed from an alkoxymethyl triphenylphosphonium salt by the action of a base is subjected to Wittig rearrangement to produce an alkylphenol ether compound, which is then hydrolyzed with an acid catalyst.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
