The alternator carries adaptors in the general form of a thick disc whose periphery (12) has slight axial indentations for press-fitting into the opening (22) in a heat sink. Upper and lower plane surfaces (14,16) are inset slightly and surrounded by beading (14b,16b). The diameter and depth of the insets are chosen to allow a standard power rectifying diode to be soldered into either of them. Grooves (14a,16a) limit the shear stresses on the soldered surfaces. The adaptor is made preferably of Cu or Al alloy or brass, tinned for solder compatibility and corrosion protection.
