The invention relates to a PCM switching system employing switching elementary matrix controlled by a control microprocessor (µP). Each elementary matrix including:one block for the control of incoming flows (BP_GFE) suitable to receive flows whose bit-rate is preferably separately programmable;one programming and control block for outgoing flows (BP_GFU) suitable to make available at output those flows whose bit-rate is preferably separately programmable;one connection control block (BCC) suitable to ciclically and constantly control the correctness of the connection operations;one timing receipt and distribution block (BR_DT),one synchronism phase shifting detection block (BRSS),one microprocessor interface block (BIM).
