The invention relates to a process for the preparation of highly wear-resistant surfaces by deposition welding. The wear-resistant surface layer is applied as a first order component to a metallic substrate by means of a current-carrying, moving with feed relative to the substrate surface, forming the electrode welding wire, said continuous and proportional to the wire feed introduced a powdered welding material in the active region of an arc and there together with the end of the wire is melted down. According to the invention the build-up welding is performed by means of an alloy powder fill tubes containing wire as a first order component and thereby supplied to the second order component with a composition corresponding to the total composition of the first order component of powder filling and casing of the tube wire.
