Tin-(II) dicarboxylate compounds and organotin-(IV) carboxylate compounds are used as additives for preventing skin-formation in air-drying binders. Tin-(II) and tin-(IV) compounds of formulae (I) and (II) are used as additives for preventing skin-formation in air-drying binders. R1-COO-Sn-OOC-R2 (I) (R1COO)(R2COO)n-Sn-(R3)(R4)m (II) R1-R4 = optionally branched 1-18C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or phenyl; n, m = 0, 1 or 2; (n + m) = 2
