Process for determining oxygen and nitrous oxide in gas mixtures comprises feeding the gas mixture to a zinc-air cell containing electrodes connected to a network of diodes and resistors placed on at least two electrochemical operating regions. The current flowing in each of the operating regions is used to indicate the amount of O2 and N2O in the gas mixture. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for carrying out the process for determining oxygen and nitrous oxide in gas mixtures comprising a housing (2, 3) containing the gas mixture (5) and a zinc-air cell (1), and a circuit connected to the electrodes of the cell. The circuit contains diodes (7, 8), resistors (9, 10), sensing points (11, 12) and apparatus for measuring and displaying the current strength.
