The mechanism, consisting of a vertical guide tube (3) for a sliding shutter with tubular (42) and truncated conical (43) sections which covers the cistern outlet (20) and an actuator, has the lower end of the guide tube inserted partially into the outlet and held in place by adjustable retaining elements (30) with radial vanes (31). The movement of the shutter along the guide tube is limited by a stop screw (5) through the shutter's tubular section interacting with a slot (33) in the guide tube.
