A catalyst composition for alpha olefin polymerization is provided. The catalyst composition is prepared by a process including treating PVC-based particles with organomagnesium compound in an inert solvent, contacting the treated PVC particles with a transition metal compound TiCl4, VCl4 or ZrCl4, in the absence of an electron donor, and activating the product particles with a cocatalyst. The organomagnesium compound can also be used along with an organoaluminum compound.
