The present invention provides a ruthenium-optically active phosphine complex mixture comprising three complexes represented by the following general formulae (I), (II) and (III), respectively:        [Ru(R¹-SEGPHOS) (sol)₄]I₂     (I)        [Ru(R¹-SEGPHOS) (sol)₄]I(anion)     (II)        [RuI(R¹-SEGPHOS) (sol)₃] (anion)     (III)wherein sol represents a nitrile-based solvent; R¹-SEGPHOS represents an optically active tertiary phosphine represented by the following general formula (IV): wherein R¹ represents an aryl group which may have a substituent selected from the group consisting of a C_1-4 lower alkyl group, a C_1-4 lower alkoxy group, a C_1-4 lower alkylamino group and a halogen atom, or a C_3-9 cycloalkyl group; and anion represents a perfluoroalkylsulfonyl anion, a process for the preparation thereof and an asymmetric hydrogenation catalyst comprising the ruthenium-optically active phosphine complex mixture.
