PURPOSE: A method for mapping a face image using a panorama image in model based encoding system is provided to synthesize a three-dimensional face image with a standard face image. CONSTITUTION: A method for mapping a face image using a panorama image in model based encoding system includes first thru ninth steps. At the first step(102,104,106,108), first through third texture face images are acquired. At the second step(110,112,114,116), first through forth standard border face images are extracted. At the third step(118), standard face images and first through forth border face images are generated. At the forth step(120,122,124), locations of characteristic elements of face images are detected. At the fifth step(126,128,130), characteristic mapped standard face images are generated. At the sixth step(132), texture mapped face images are generated. At the seventh step(134), the texture mapped face images are synthesized and overlapped region is removed. At the eighth step(136), texture mapped first through forth face images are generated. At the ninth step(138), the texture mapped first through border images are inserted to the removed region at the seventh step,
