摘要

PURPOSE: A composite optical material wherein Yb3+ is added into a single crystal, polycrystalline or amorphous material using Cr4+ or V3+ as an active medium, and a handling method thereof are provided. CONSTITUTION: When a composite optical material is used for a laser or optical fiber amplifier, if it avoids a wavelength of 600 to 800nm where an excited state absorption occurs in Cr4+ and is excited at a wavelength of 980nm where absorption seriously occurs in Yb3+, energy is transmitted and discharged from Yb3+ to Cr4+, thereby generating fluorescence of a band of 1200 to 1600nm. As a result, a life span of Cr4+ is increased, low efficiency by the excited state absorption is overcome and fluorescent discharge is efficiently performed.
