摘要

PURPOSE: A tetrabenzotetraazacyclohexadecine as a cylindrical liquid crystal compound exhibiting its liquid crystal property in the broad range of temperature, a producing method, and a liquid crystal display using the same are provided. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing a tetrabenzotetraazacyclohexadecine compound comprises the steps: nitrifying benzaldehyde dissolved in organic solvent, for example acetone, dichloroethane, to form nitrobenzaldehyde; reducing nitrobenzaldehyde to obtain aminobenzaldehyde, preferably hydrogenating in the presence of palladium/active carbon catalyst; and ring-condensating aminobenzaldehyde. Tetrabenzotetraazacyclohexadecine has property of liquid crystal ranging from -4.3C to 270C. Liquid crystal display components including tetrabenzotetraazacyclohexadecine or its salts as liquid crystal layer forming material are also provided, which is used in apparatus having broad range of application.
