PURPOSE: A method for automatically controlling a side notcher is provided to improve productivity and to quickly control through automatic operation. CONSTITUTION: Ends of a proceeding strip and a following strip are welded by a welder and are moved to a check position. It is judged whether a notch unit is formed in a welding unit of the strip in the check position, and a value that the movement distance of the notcher position is subtracted from the distance of the check position is obtained. The subtracted value is input to a program logic controller for controlling a line, and the running of a work and a drive side is accomplished by the controlling of a welder notcher. A data memory is calculated and is transferred to a direct current motor controller, and a strip is backed up. Then, the strip is sensed by an optical sensor, stopped and moved onto the next process after removing the notch unit of the strip.
