PURPOSE: A method of preventing the generation of cementite from a wire rod of a hypereutectoid steel is provided to prevent the generation and growth of cementite by controlling hot rolling and cooling condition. CONSTITUTION: A hypereutectoid steel containing 0.80-1.0% of C is rolled at a transformation rate speed of 1-100/s at a rolling temperature of not less than 800C. After that, the hypereutectoid steel is cooled at a cooling speed of not less than 3C/s. Another hypereutectoid steel with 1.0-1.42% of C content is rolled at a transformation rate speed of 1-100/s at a temperature of not less than 800C and cooled at a speed of not less than 60C/s. The other hypereutectoid steel with 0.8-1.1% of C is rolled at a transformation rate speed of 10/s at a temperature of not less than 800C and cooled at a speed of not less than 5C/s.
