PURPOSE: A cooling method is provided to prevent distortion of a stainless steel plate due to residual stress forming in the stainless steel plate while being cooled. CONSTITUTION: A central of the stainless steel plate annealed at temperatures of 1050-1200C is cooled to 900-1000C. The part excepting 300-400mm of the central part from both ends of widthwise of the stainless steel plate is cooled to keep the temperature of the central part of the stainless steel plate 700-800C. The part excepting 200-300mm of the central from the both ends of the widthwise of the stainless steel plate is cooled to keep the temperature of the central part of the stainless steel plate 400-500C. The central of the stainless steel plate is cooled at normal temperature. Thereby, the residual stress in the annealed stainless steel plate is reduced.
